Priority Topic Area: Healthy Behaviors; Reduce Substance Use/Abuse and Suicides

Goal:
- Reduce heart disease and type II diabetes.
- Reduce substance use/abuse and suicides.
Objectives:
- Improve school wellness by increasing physical activity done by students and increasing consumption of healthy foods during school hours.
- Increase the percentage of people meeting the CDC’s physical activity recommendations of 30 minutes daily for adults and 1 hour daily for youth.
- Reduce the % of youth using tobacco, alcohol and/or other drugs.
- Reduce the number of attempted suicides.
Project Highlights:
- 468 students, grades 6-8, participating in fitness/exercise programs
- Alternative PE/exercise program using fitness equipment, Yoga class, Dance Aerobics class
- 20 students participating in Cedar Ridge Moves, after school class
- Old wrestling room renovated as new Fitness Center
- Exercise equipment, AV equipment, and water station installed. New flooring installed over concrete, walls painted, padding installed on areas of wall
